VALONI criteria
Get to know the standards behind the VALONI mark. Below, you’ll find an overview of the key evaluation areas, criteria, and required documentation for your application.
What is evaluated
VALONI applies to luminaires covered by the EN IEC 60598 series that require CE marking under EU harmonization legislation. Eligible luminaires must have undergone the manufacturer’s conformity assessment process and display the CE mark.
The VALONI process primarily evaluates the quality of the manufacturer’s conformity assessment, key aspects of the product, and its technical documentation.
Additionally, the evaluation considers the manufacturer’s practices for ensuring compliance and quality throughout the product lifecycle.
Key areas of evaluation and criteria overview
VALONI criteria are based on EU directives, regulations, harmonized standards, and industry best practices. Below is an overview of the key evaluation areas. For detailed criteria, refer to the VALONI technical documentation.
-
VALONI applies to LED luminaires covered by the EN IEC 60598 series (except luminaires for emergency lighting covered by EN IEC 60598-2-22) and requiring CE marking under EU legislation. The product must have completed the manufacturer's conformity assessment and display the CE mark.
-
Review of the manufacturer’s documentation and labeling to confirm compliance with EU requirements and standards, including Declarations of Conformity, user instructions, risk assessments, and product markings.
-
Evaluation of safety aspects in accordance with the Low Voltage Directive and relevant harmonized standards, ensuring that the luminaire meets strict safety criteria. The application of standards is mandatory.
-
Verification that the manufacturer has assessed the luminaire’s electromagnetic compatibility in accordance with the EMC Directive, ensuring proper documentation and compliance with regulatory requirements.
-
Verification that the product meets the Ecodesign and Energy Labeling Regulations, ensuring energy efficiency and compliance with EU sustainability goals.
-
Confirmation that the manufacturer has evaluated the luminaire’s compliance with RoHS and REACH regulations, ensuring appropriate documentation on restricted substances and material safety.
-
Evaluation of compliance with Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) regulations, ensuring correct labeling and producer responsibility fulfillment.
